The Kennedys miniseries

I decided to see what the fuss was about and why the History channel chose not to air The Kennedys....I completely understand.  The miniseries (which started Sunday night on the Reelz channel and has 8 parts) makes for good TV watching, but definitely doesn't have the air about it to seem as true to history as some other movies about the Kennedys

Tom Wilkinson (Joe Kennedy) is the father and head of the Kennedy empire.  He runs a tight ship to say the least and has high expectations, and since he can't accomplish them, he pressures the boys to accomplish them for him. Neither JFK nor Bobby seem interested in politics. However,  Joe puts them into politics, he doesn't suggest it , he just does it. Tom Wilkinson plays this part well, if that is what the producer was looking for.

Greg Kinnear (JFK) does a fine job.  I don't feel he has nailed the accent but does some good acting.  The part that annoys me with him is that it seems that the producer has a book of pictures of JFK and keeps asking Greg Kinnear to pause during a scene so it looks like the real JFK.  Now, I do think that out of all the actors,  Greg Kinnear looks that most like his character, but give me a break, let the scene happen naturally...without pauses!

Katie Holmes (Jackie Kennedy) seems the least believable.  She is REALLY trying. She is trying to get the accent (not really working), she is trying to be the doting/worried/upset wife (seems fake). OK, I believe that she is pregnant (not too hard to believe - she looks pregnant!)

Barry Pepper, with a big prosthetic nose,  portrays Bobby Kennedy.  So far I like him the most.  I don't know too much about Bobby, but right now he doesn't annoy me and seems to stand up to his dad a little.  I am interested to see how he does in the long run.

The miniseries is good TV watching and I will continue to watch to see how these actors play out such significant historical moments. I am intrigued!
