For those of you with older children, no children or you just choose not to watch Sesame Street, you are missing out on some of the best comedy sketches on TV. Of course it is educational, of course it still has great guest stars, and a whole bunch of fun furry monsters.
But this is not you parents Sesame Street (the show is 40+ years old ) and they may not even recognize the show. When I was little I watched avidly through elementary because I would watch with my brother and sister, also. I continued to love Sesame Street and then started watching the Muppets, Muppet movies and Fraggle Rock. Of course as an adult I had no reason to watch but after Daughter and then Son were born I was excited to see that it was still on and it had evolved.
New characters have been added: Elmo, Zoe, Rosita, Abby, Murray, and several real people have all moved onto the famous street. What has blown my mind has been the small sketches that are played during the show. Some of my favorites in the past 6 years have been: "A's Anatomy" (where they were trying to put together a capital A), "The American I" (where letters aaudition in front of 3 recognizable Muppet judges to become the next I), "The Closer" (where a Kyra Sedgwick Muppet goes around the office closing cases, literally) , "The 'A' Team" (where the the different monsters want to be a part of a team that dresses like an A), and "The O show" (where the letter O - voiced by Oprah herself - hosts a show dedicated to the letter O - and you get an oboe, and you get an oboe and you get an oboe!) I have to admit that there are times when I would rather watch Sesame Street instead of Saturday Night Live - the sketches are better!!
They have also added "Abby's Flying Fairy School", "Bert and Ernie's Great Adventures", "Elmo's World" and "Super Grover 2.0". I am very thankful that not only is Sesame Street still providing my children with wonderful educational information, but also it is extremely tolerable if not enjoyable to me as a parent that has to watch!
